چکیده
Built-up nested channel (NC) members, which are made of asymmetric cold-formed steel (CFS) lipped sections commonly used in various building applications Australia. The aim this research study is to provide suitable design guidelines for NC compression fail by global or local–global interaction buckling. Firstly, the rules current CFS standards and recently published studies were reviewed, their limitations members discussed. A test series was then conducted on single failed Based results, validated finite element (FE) models developed, followed a detailed parametric failing buckling different sections, lengths, end support boundary conditions as well screw sizes arrangements. FE analysis results to: (1) compare capacities with sum individual member capacities, (2) evaluate effect characteristics arrangements, (3) investigate methods past studies. Finally, based Direct Strength Method standards, simple reliable method proposed. This paper presents details including its findings.

Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns
Abstract—The present work illustrates a parametric study for the effect of stiffeners on the performance of slender built up steel Icolumns. To achieve the desired analysis, finite element technique is used to develop nonlinear three-dimensional models representing the investigated columns. The finite element program (ANSYS 13.0) is used as a calculation tool for the necessary nonlinear analysi...
متن کاملLocal and Distortional Buckling of Cold-Formed Steel Members
Laminar structures have a high post-buckling strength reserve. Cold-formed steel profiles can be taken as a set of thin plate elements. Therefore it is necessary to design this type of profiles taking into account that reserve of strength in post-local buckling modes of failure. The method normally used to design this type of structures is based on the Effective Width concept. The Effective Wid...
متن کاملYield - line analysis of cold - formed steel members
The objective of this paper is to provide a state of the art review of the application of yield-line analysis to cold-formed steel members, and present a newly developed solution to the stresses that develop in an inclined yield-line. Yield-line analysis in cold-formed steel members is shown to be distinct from traditional yield-line applications. Challenges in the application of yield-line ana...
متن کاملOn Cold-Formed Steel Construction
Powder-actuated (also referred to as low velocity or powder-driven) fasteners are commonly used to attach cold-formed steel framing members, usually a track, to a concrete or structural steel support. Although commonly used, their behavior is less well understood than other fasteners such as screws, bolts and welds. The AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual does not explicitly address powder act...
متن کاملComputational Modeling of Cold-formed Steel
The objective of this paper is to summarize recent research and experiences with computational modeling of cold-formed steel conducted within the author’s research group at Johns Hopkins University. This admittedly biased view of computational modeling focuses primarily on the use of the semi-analytical finite strip method and collapse modeling using shell finite elements. Issues addressed incl...
